Icon with brass and copper, oklad, 2nd half of the 19th century
Bid on a Russian icon with the Tikhon of Zadonsk (1724-1783)
The bishop of Voronezh
The icon is from the 2nd half of the 19th century; the oklad
has been artfully made of brass and copper. The icon is hallmarked.
Unfortunately, the marking is worn and is not easy to identify.
The golden nimbus of the bishop is made of copper and has been covered in gold leaf. The strongly embossed oklad made of brass has been decorated along the edges with trellis work. Different parts of the clothing have also been made from copper. The single painting is an oil on a chalk background.
The Tikhon was well-known for his support of prisoners, poor families and the homeless. He fought against pagan relics and returning of the Old Believers to orthodoxy.
Dimensions: Height: 18.0 cm, width: 14.8 cm, depth: 1.7 cm
The icon is in very good, age-appropriate condition. A hanging mount is missing.
The item will be properly packaged and shipped with DHL with tracking number.
