Beautiful work that chronicles the political and military life of Espartero (Joaquín Baldomero Fernández Espartero Álvarez de Toro, 1793-1879). It was written by Alejandro Cardeñosa and J. de Torá taking into account all the works on the topic published until that day.
Espartero was a Spanish general and politician, defender of the monarchy in general and Queen Isabella II in particular, and Regent during the minority of Isabella II for almost 4 years.
He had a very interesting career in the service of the Spanish Crown. His military career begins as a young soldier in the Peninsular War, fought between the Allied Nations (Spain, UK and Portugal) against the French Empire.
With numerous achievements, he was offered the throne of Spain after the dethronement of Isabella II but Espartero didn’t accept.
The work recounts: Homeland and family of Espartero, Battle of Ayacucho, arrival at Bordeaux, Siege of Bilbao, correspondence with Ferdinand VII, state of war at the end of 1836, several expeditions, the Carlists, peace agreement with Maroto, disturbances in Madrid, military rebellions, congratulations to Espartero, etc..
