Sheet size of approx. 29.2 x 11.8 cm, on watermarked laid paper (lily), in good condition, slightly chipped on the corners but outside the line of framing. Signed on the plate bottom centre “R. Lafage invent. Lafage”, written from right to left.
On bottom of the image is says “A Paris chez Iean Vander Bruggen, rue St. Jacques au grand Magazin C.P.R.”
The image depicts a scene with dancing and playing putti, who attend the scene and, on the right, that ride a lion, symbol of the god Bacchus born by the god and Semele. To the same theme was dedicated another engraving depicting the encounter between the two lovers.
The etching is part of a series of prints taken from the drawings of Lafage that Johannes Vander Bruggen, his friend and great admirer of his art, published in 1689 in memory of Raymond Lafage with the title “Recueil des meilleurs desseins de Raimond La Fage gravé par cinq des plus habiles graveurs: Et mis en lumière par les soins de Vander-Bruggen”
