Rare old large format album about ancient Egypt and Nubia (today northern Sudan) including 32 original vintage albumen photographs by the first primitive photographers in ancient Egypt, Antonio Beato and Pascal Sebah. Circa 1860/1865.

This large format album includes 11 large size pictures (37 x 26 cm) and 6 regular formats (26 x 20 cm) by Antonio Beato and 15 regular formats photographs (26 x 20 cm) by Paul Sebah.

Ancient sites of Egypt, Denderah, Assioud, Luxor, Karnak, Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Kings, Medinet Abou...

Laminated prints on cardboard, title in golden letters on front and back cover, many signatures in the negatives and handwritten captions on the back of the prints, very good preservation of photographs with great contrasts and tones despite their age.
Slight traces of moisture around the edge of the cardboards which do not affect photographs.

Format of the photos: 27 x 26 cm and 26 x 20 cm.
Format of the albums: 50 x 35 cm.

Antonio Beato (1825-1906), is one of the primitive photographers with Emile Béchard and Pascal Sebah from Egypt from the years 1850/1860.
Settled in Cairo (Egypt), he took many photographs of Egyptian ancient sites before the second wave of Western or local photographers such as Bonfils, Arnoux or Zangaki came in the 1870s/1880s. His photographs are very sought after and often used as a reference to judge the condition of the sites at their earliest origins, before or during the work of the first archaeological missions.
