Antonio Beato (1825-1906), is one of the primitive photographers with Emile Béchard and Pascal Sebah from Egypt from the years 1850/1860.
Settled in Cairo (Egypt), he took many photographs of Egyptian ancient sites before the second wave of Western or local photographers such as Bonfils, Arnoux or Zangaki came in the 1870s/1880s. His photographs are very sought after and often used as a reference to judge the condition of the sites at their earliest origins, before or during the work of the first archaeological missions.
