Plate no. 43 from “Collection de cent-vingt estampes gravées d'après les tableaux et dessins qui composaient le Cabinet de M. Poullain,”
On the centre Silenus holds in the right hand the hem of the dress, raised, in which are some bunches of grapes. On the left is an old woman with a small empty basket in her hands; behind is a young man playing the horn. On the right a winged putto is represented in foreground while behind him a woman carries a basket full of fruit on her head. The figures surrounding Silenus were interpreted as allegories of the 4 seasons or as Love, Flora and Zephyr and an elderly woman.
From a painting of Jacob Jordaens (1593–1678), painter and etcher from Antwerp, contemporary of Rubens, who etched a limited number of plates with religious and mythological theme.
