Original kuchi-e woodblock print by Kobori Tomoto (1864-1931) - The Samurai Hachimantaro - Japan - 1909
Rare kuchi-e woodblock print made in 1909 by the artist Kobori Tomoto and depicting the samurai of the late Heian period Minamoto no Yoshiie, also known as Hachimantaro.
Hachimantaro (1039 - 1106) held the office of commander-in-chief of the defense of the North and proved himself in battle with the Abe clan in the Zenkunen war and the Kiyohara clan in the Gosannen war, becoming something of a paragon of samurai skill and bravery.
Size: 30,5 x 22 cm
The work on Japanese washi paper, despite the proper signs of the time and slight stains especially on the upper right side, is in good general condition. Trimmed.
