About the artist herself:
Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk was born on 4 August 1873 in the Hague. She was taught by her husband Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff. They lived and worked primarily in Laren (Noord-Holland).
Johanna painted and drew mostly still lifes and flower arrangements. She was a member of the association for the fine arts 'Laren-Blaricum'. She has exhibited her work many times with her husband in Belgium. In addition, her work was on display in the exhibition ‘Kunst van heden’ in the Rijksmuseum in 1939.
She lived in Laren, at the Tafelbergweg 8 villa ‘Alberta’, address book: Laren-Blaricum 1938.
Johanna Van Rijswijk died on 1 June 1956 in Laren.
