Pol Bury was a Belgian painter and sculptor, who was part of the Belgian surrealist movement and of the Cobra movement. He was known for his fountains also in the United States and Japan, and by his contributions to the kinetic art.
From 1947 he began painting more and more abstract, and he was forced to leave the surrealist movement to join the group “La jeune peinture Belge”. From then on he presented his works with artists from the Cobra movement. He left Cobra, however, quickly, because he could not unite with the strong tendency towards spontaneous.
In 1969 he made his first monumental work: a fountain for the University of Iowa.
In Brussels on the Jacqmainlaan is the Pol Buryfontein, made by him and named after him.
