‘Hommes / Femmes’ by Herb Ritts. Published by Twin Palms Publishers, Altadena, California, in 1989; second edition - ‘Limited to five thousand sets of each volume in a box.’
A set of two photographs in two shades; a volume ('M’) with 47 prints of males, the other volume ('W') with 45 prints of women, with topics, most of the time naked in a variety of poses, and with a certain frontal nudity. Each volume is bound in plates covered with black fabric with a photo on the front and golden letters on the spine; 260 x 208 mm; black flyleaves; unpaginated. No dust jacket - as is The set is housed in a box covered in black cloth with golden letters on the spine, and a golden M on one side and W on the other.
The golden letters on the slipcases and books are slightly rubbed - as usual. The fabric of the spine on the two volumes is slightly discoloured, but they are free of dents or other damage to the borders or corners, and the spines are in good condition. The flyleaves and the book block in both volumes are slightly dented. There are some blue stains (moisture?) on the top margin of the last page of text (thanks / colophon) and some matching pale spots on the front of the back end paper adjacent to the volume ‘M’; There is a blue stain on the top margin of the first page of the text of the volume 'W', but the actual printed surface (photo) on this page is not affected; Paper of high quality in both volumes, but none of the leaves are glued together, and there is no other sign of damage due to moisture or water, like stains or traces of mould. The spine, the top and bottom panels and the open borders of the side panels of the box are slightly faded, the fabric on the front panel, the bottom panel, and vertical folds of the casing a little crooked / bubbled in places, and the plates inside the case are slightly stained blue in places (likely of light moisture causing a dye of the fabric of the book cover transferred at some point during storage).
Recovered new from a Paris dealer.
