Portrait of Johannes Lutma (1574–1669), silversmith, 1656.
The silversmith Johannes Lutma was a well-known figure in the society of Amsterdam. He became friends with many artists, including Rembrandt. Lutma is shown here with the tools of his profession: a hammer and a chisel, and some copies of the works that he had created. In Rembrandt's etching, Lutma is holding a candlestick and on the desk is an oval plate in “kwab” style.
