This work was inherited 30 years ago by the present owner.
It belonged to an aunt who was employed by a pastor in France in the first half of the 20th century. The present owner suspects that she acquired it there, probably as a gift.

The house in the embroidered picture shows strong resemblance to several drawings and prints of Huis Over-Holland along the river Vecht, Nieuwersluis, the Netherlands. Please see attached images:
1) Het huis Over-Holland, gezien van de overzijde van de Vecht by Lutgers, Petrus Josephus, 1868. Drawing on paper in pencil, brown and grey ink.
Collection: Centraal Museum Utrecht, inv: 9379/024.
This drawing is part of a series of 61 views in the Vecht area by Lutgers, all in the collection of the Centraal Museum (inv.nrs.9379 / 001 - 9379/061). The series was made between 1866 and 1872 on behalf of Mr. Matthes, the then resident of Kweekhoven in Breukelen.

2) Gezicht op huis Over Holland met theekoepel aan de Vecht te Nieuwersluis, Pieter Bartholomeusz. Barbiers, naar Hermanus Numan, 1782 - 1837. Handcoloured print.
Collection: Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, inv: RP-P-1963-625
