About Ventolaio

Ventolaio is one of the most interesting winery in Montalcino. The winery is located in a privileged position south of the town of Montalcino, on a beautiful hill between the towns of Sant'Antimo and S. Angelo in Colle, and is led by the owners Luigi Fanti and his wife Maria Assunta, with the support of the sons, Baldassare and Manuele. The story is quite recent, it all begins in the late '80s when Luigi decides to renovate the family house, expanding with the occasion even the area of vines available. This has always been the realm of Sangiovese, which here benefits from an excellent exposure, lands rich in minerals and, as evidenced by the company name, a constant ventilation, an element that protects the grapes by the hot summer days and dries them after the rains. There are 14 hectares of vineyards located at heights between 300 and 450 meters, on soils tendentially galestrose, with variability in terms of equipment of limestone, iron and sand. Passing in the cellar you can see the respect of tradition with the use of large barrels, but also a great attention to cleanliness, an essential element for the production of quality wines. Since 2013, the winery is in the hands of one of the leading experts of Sangiovese, Maurizio Castelli. The company is in biological conversion.
