Antonio de vity ( 1901- 1993) - scene di vita Parigi

Great painting by Antonio Devity (1901–1993) from a family collection. The canvas has dimensions 120 cm x 60 cm, depicting the street life on the major boulevards of Paris. The artist of this painting has managed to crystallise on the canvas an explosion of life, movement ranging from the many characters to the running horse pulling a carriage, to the sky after a rainstorm, to the bright lights of the Ville Lumière. The canvas is in excellent condition, recently cleaned, colours are vivid, there is no lacks nor repair, the frame has some sign of wear, probably made in the 40s and in any case during his stay in Paris. In the modern market, the paintings of Antonio Devity are smaller than the one you see presented here. Rarely his larger works are available for sale, adding value to this particular piece of exceptional rarity. Umberto Marone, aka Antonio de Vity, was born in Naples in 1901, he was passionate about painting and art, and had a great love for Paris, a city which his grandmother’s family was from. He studied at the Art College of Naples and spent a few years in Paris where he studied with Antoine Blanchard and Giacomo Balla. In those years he had the opportunity to attend the Ecole des Beaux Arts, and appreciate those places depicted in his paintings, including Notre Dame, the Moulin Rouge etc. Since then, the decided to use the pseudonym of Antonio de Vity. He is known for the images of the street life of Paris and for the Venice canals. After his return to Naples in 1950, he founded a school that quickly became a prestigious art studio, which was an important meeting place for artists of southern Italy. He has exhibited in major international cities, including Brussels in 1953, Marrakech in 1955 and Madrid in 1956.
