1990, the Netherlands
The atom model from 1990 is a timeless one as the demand for this lighting object keeps on recurring. This is why I decided to reutilise old techniques and make another four pieces.
The geometric lighting object consists of 12 brushed 316 stainless steel spheres with a diameter of 25 cm, adding up to a height of 63 cm, and it can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The spheres are interconnected purely symmetrically, using compounding steps in various moulds with multiple connecting techniques and a 'lot of patience', to form a strong casing. And this is where we find the rub in this work of art: if just one sphere isn't exactly in the right place, then the rest will not fit either and the construction process cannot be completed. A replaceable LED lamp was fitted in the inner space that was created.
Each sphere is in the same position in relation to the other spheres from every angle, and each brushed structure is aimed towards the centre. This makes the object a fascinating piece and at the same time reflects a peaceful unity, making the object also suited to be placed in a smaller living room.
The original and protected model from 1990 will be delivered with signature.
