Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
Heriz is located in north-western Iran, in Azerbaijan, north-east of Tabriz. The carpets woven here are extremely resistant and bear the same name as the slopes of Mount Sabalan. The silk carpets woven in Heriz until the 19th century were considered to be the best and are now owned by collectors. The new Heriz carpets are thick, sturdy and reasonably priced. The wool produced in the region is of very good quality and very resistant, as the sheep's drinking water contains traces of copper from Mount Sabalan. The carpets often feature geometric designs with a large dominating medallion in the centre. Their designs are traditional and woven inside out. The traditional black and red colours are most commonly used.
