Bronze on base representing 'Child HERCULES ,' Franco-German work of the 19th of a well-known group, after a larger model of Alessandro Algardi said L’Algarde (1598-1654).
Signed with a chisel under the base Fondeur "MARTIN".
H. 20.5 cm; length 25 cm; depth 8 cm. Weight 3.700 kg.
The snake is probably missing !
It is in two parts, character and base (the nuts are square because at the time the founder made them himself from moulded cast bars, cut out and then drilled and tapped.
The finish as the brown patina are of good quality. Also with carvings which does not have the usual scrubbing...
The base is well "carved from the block", this is a well mastered bronze casting.
An almost similar one has been showed in April 2018 in a prestigious auction house in Paris.

This small group is based on a model with slightly larger dimensions (39 x 42 cm) made by Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654), including a version in terracotta
which is mentioned in the inventory of the 1719 collection Gennari in Bologna. Similar versions are included to the collections of the Louvre, the Galleria Nazionale in Rome as well as to the collections of the marquis of Exeter in Burghley
House and M John R. Gaines.
