Superb large photograph of the great room of the Amre mosque (Amr ibn al-As) by Pascal Sebah.
This room was photographed many times, here in a larger size by one of the first photographers of Egypt.
High quality photograph, excellent shades of grey and contrast, very clean, no scuffing, no foxing, rare in this condition and size.
Size: 36 x 27 cm.
It deserves to be framed.
The photograph is captioned and signed at the bottom left and right, with annotations in the negative.
Pascal Sebah (1823-1886) was a French photographer of Syrian origin who settled in Constantinople (Turkey) to open a photographic studio in 1857, before opening a second one in Cairo in the 1870s. His son, Jean Pascal Sebah resumes photographic activities by partnering notably with French photographer Polycarpe Joaillier.
