He was known for the patience he showed when subjected to insults and pain, and for his charity work.
He had many visions during his life. Several supernatural phenomena, like healings, bilocation (presence in multiple locations at once), clairvoyance, prophecies and bread multiplications are also attributed to him. In 1755 Gerard died of tuberculosis at the age of 29 in Caposele, Southern Italy.
