Original SS Dienstdolch M33!
Early dagger of the SS (Schutz Staffel) of the manufacturer Richard Abraham Herder from Solingen.
All SS signs and swastikas are camouflaged on the photos, but 100% present.
The dagger dates back to the early days of the Third Reich period, produced around 1934-1935. This dagger is performed in the so-called nickelsilber, a non-magnetic alloy.
Quillons and fittings, including ring and screws of the sheath are thus non-magnetic, exactly as it should be for an early implementation of this dagger.
The bottom quillon has a Roman I on the back, this represents the SS Zeugmeisterei in Munich. In Munich this dagger was approved by the SS, after which a Roman 1 ("I") was embossed in it.
The blade is in used, but good condition. On the front the motto of the SS is etched: "Meine Ehre Heisst Treue".
The implementation of the etchings vary by manufacturer, this etching / motto is exactly the same as listed in the reference book of Ralf Siegert, "Die Dienstdolche der Schutzstaffel", see photo.
On the back of the blade the logo of the manufacturer is deeply etched and is also the same as shown in the above mentioned reference book, see photo.
The blade has light oxidation and wear but is still in undamaged condition. The blade has not been cleaned or brushed, only cleaned of grease, etc.
The blade has the correct "Schmiedemark" (kind of firm stamping in the steel that is hidden in the grip) on the hook: a little diamond (hard to see due to the rust on the hook, see circle on the picture) and a number "1".
The side of the hook has the desired "battle seam", a slightly raised line on the hook which arises when forming/hitting the blade in the press).
A portion of this seam is circled in the picture.
The quillon are of nickelsilber and on the inside left they have the letter P and to the right of the letter A, this refers to the company that produced the quillons named, Piel & Adey from Solingen. (This company and also Firm Herder are still active and located in Solingen)
Herder mostly used quillons of P&A.
The quillons have not been polished or cleaned by me to keep the patina intact.
The ebony handle is in very good condition, ebony has a tendency to chip and splinter very fast. A SS handle in this condition is very hard to find!
Only slight signs of wear and tear on the front and rear has some minor damage, see pictures.
The eagle in the handle is original placed and fits 100% in the wood. The SS runes emblem is the same as described in mentioned reference book, see pictures. Only slightly damaged in the enamel.
Firm Herder used the SS pastilles with the so-called "little Linsen": the SS runs are thicker and do not touch the edge. (At the "grosse Linsen" the runs are considerably thinner and touch the rim at the top and bottom)
The sheath is also of the early type, so with non-magnetic ironwork. All four screws are present. The steel sheath is painted black, is only slightly damaged, see pictures. Lower ironwork has some dents, see photo.
Dagger / blade and sheath are not strongly cleaned / polished by me, the original patina remains thus preserved. Obviously, the new owner can polish the dagger if desired.
