Willem Hussem (1900, Den Haag - 1974).
Hussem left for southern France in 1918 and later to Paris, where he came in contact with Mondrian and Picasso and got to know the work of Vincent van Gogh.
Under the title 'Experimental' he exhibits completely abstract works in 1947 and 1948 with artists such as Ouborg, Sinemus and Willy Boers.
In 1949 he became a member of 'Vrij Beelden' and later 'Liga Nieuw Beelden'.
He exhibits at the International Exposition of Contemporary Painting in Pittsburg (1950 and 1955) and on the 13th Biennial in Venice (1960).
In 1952 and 1955 he gets the Jacob Maris Prize for painting and in 1958 the same price for drawing.
