Original woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865) - 'Ninja and Prince Genji', from the series "Color Print Contest of a Modern Genji" - Japan - 1853
Precious polychrome woodblock print made in 1853 by the famous master Utagawa Kunisada and containing a rare depiction of a ninja killer while drawing his sword behind a koto player.
The work is taken from the series "Color Print Contest of a Modern Genji" and is inspired by the twelfth chapter, entitled "Suma", of Genji monogatari, one of the masterpieces of Japanese literature.
Size: 18 x 24,5 cm
The print on Japanese washi paper, made by the publisher Sanoya Kihei Kikakudo , despite the right signs of the time (spots also in the eyes of the ninja), the trimmed margins, and an evident sign of vertical bending on the left side, is in good general condition.
The woodblock print will be well-packaged and shipped by registered mail with a tracking code.
