Charles Leslie(qu'on a longtemps confondu avec Hans Sloane) - Histoire de la Jamaique - A Londres, chez Nourse (en fait à Paris), 1751

Complete in two volumes bound in a single binding.
Vol. 1: title page / notice to the reading (1ff) / 285 pages.
Vol. 2: title page / 248 pages / + 6 fold-out boards bound at the end

Later binding but old, preserved title label Beautiful marbled paper on the covers Very fresh inside, very nice condition of the six engravings out of text at the end Very nice copy

Translated by a french soldier, this text was published in Ireland a few years earlier by Leslie Charles. It is about the conquest by the Spanish, of the reign of Columbus (who turned it into a marquisate) of the Buccaneers in Port Royal, of slave ships of the 18th century, a very close relationship with the French in St. Domingue. Despite some rare historical errors, this book remains a reference in the history of Jamaica.
