Beautiful - scarce - on the etching by Johan Hemkes of the monastery of Ter Apel with in the foreground. "twelve apostles tree". Etching is in new condition and is signed in pencil bottom right and bottom left with the title. The etching is in new condition, has a new double mat and framed in a golden frame of ca. 47 x 37 cm. Johannes ("Johan") Hemkes, born in Schalsum (Friesland) in 1894, died in Bilthoven in 1988. In 1921, Johan Hemkes became an art teacher at the HBS in Ter Apel, and then had time to become a more active artist. From 1921 to 1966 he created drawings, woodcuts, watercolours, lithographs and over 400 etchings. He favoured landscapes (the lakes of Friesland), cityscapes and mushrooms. In 1966, he moved to London, where he etched until he was old. Hemkes was a member of "It Fryske Boun Kunstners'', Arti et Amicitiae, St. Lucas, De Onafhankelijken and De Grafische. As a member of these associations, he participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. The etching will be carefully packed and will be sent by registered mail by Postnl at the buyer’s expense.
