Information: Illustrated edition of this iconic poem of resistance to the invader written during the second World War (in 1942). The origin of the poem is hardly known. The Resistance Committee insisted that Eluard, the poet of love, write a political poem fitting the situation. He searched in his papers and found: This message of love which was turned into a message of hope for many and was quickly spread by English paratroopers, reinvigorating them.
A year after the death of the poet, publisher Pierre Seghers asks Fernand Léger to illustrate the famous poem in tribute to his deceased friend. The artist creates an accordion book of several pages in 1953.
