Dutch Indies “Heiho” Klewang. These klewangs were made after the model of the Dutch Navy number 1898 cutlass sword. In Indonesia in the Aceh war the Acehnese klewangs proved more effective in man-to-man-combat for the Dutch troops against the Achehnese than the longer police sabre. From 1898 the klewang was an official weapon, first of the military police units in Aceh, later also of other like KNIL, army, Navy and even police units. This klewang is, considering the age, in good condition. Along the entire length of the slightly curved blade a blood groove runs on both sides. The handle is made of horn and is confirmed to the blade with brass nails. The crossguard is likewise made of brass. The klewang still has the original matching sheath of bamboo.
