Very nice and detailed bronze sculpture of a blacksmith ("le forgeron") with dark brown patina on matching marble base. The blacksmith holds a hammer, leaning on an anvil. In his left hand he holds a plan. On the ground next to the anvil are a wheel and a book. France, late 19th century. Jean-Baptiste Germain (1841-1910) - French sculptor. Signed in the cast 'Germain JB' to the right of the pedestal. On the bottom it says MX engraved in the bronze. On the front on the pedestal there is a copper plaque with text: "Aangeboden door het personeel van The Antw.Eng.Cy aan Mr. L. De Herdt meestergast ter gelegenheid der 25e verjaring zijner indiensttreding 7 februari 1923" Height figure without base: 39 cm. Dimensions pedestal: 16.5 x 16.5 cm and height 8 cm.
