The chondrites are rocky meteorites (not metal) that were not altered by the melting of the main body.
Their formation can be attributed to dust and primordial solar grains that have grown to form primitive asteroids.
They are the most common type of meteorites that fall on Earth (about 85% of the total).
Their study provides important information about the origins of the solar system and its age, the origins of life and the presence of water on Earth.
One of their main features is the presence of chondrules - mafic balls with small grains - which are 20% to 80% of the volume, indicative of a rapid cooling.
There are currently about 27,000 Chondrites belonging to collectors.
The most substantial rain of Chondrites so far recorded occurred in 1912 in Arizona, where estimated 14,000 pieces have fallen there.
