Undamaged candles; the pigments are still fresh, but time has given the wax some dirt and yellowing
Six very rare candles, made in the early 1950s on the request of a Greek Orthodox monk from the monastery at Mount Athos in Greece. Six characteristic icon examples of important saints were first scratched in the wax with a needle, after which the pigments were applied with a brush (with your fingers it feels like relief due to the cuts in the wax)
The picture with numbers indicates the following scenes; 1. Christos pantocrator, 2. Evangelist Lucas, 3. Saint Mary, mother of god, 4. archangel Michael, 5. John the Baptist 6. Archangel Gabriel.
The candles are 30 cm high and weigh more than a pound (510 grams).
