NWA CR2-carbonaceous chondrite- Chondrite Meteorite - 9 x 8.5 x 7.5 cm - 712 g

Carbonaceous Chondrites usually contain high percentages (from 3% to 22%) of water as well as organic compounds. They are composed mainly of silicates, oxides and sulphides, with olivine and serpentine minerals as the most characteristic. The presence of volatile organic chemicals and water indicate that they have not undergone significant heating (>200 ° c) since its formation, and its compositions are considered close to the solar nebula, i.e. of the cloud of dust and gas from which the solar system would have formed as we know it today. The chemical group Renazzo (CR) of carbonaceous chondrites is distinguished by large and abundant chondrules, many of which are igneous type, few refractory inclusions, abundant metal (5-8 vol %) and an array of fine grain commonly hydrated (up to 50 vol %). From all this, it is clear that the Carbonaceous Chondrites represent the oldest materials in the solar system. On the other hand, they are very rare meteorites and that makes them unique pieces of high scientific value. The sub group CR, in turn, is of high rarity, much more in pieces of considerable size as the one of this fantastic lot. The meteorite was analysed in the University of Barcelona (Spain).
