Berkemeier, special handmade and authentically signed museum replica of this famous 16th century wine glass
Berkemeiers were particularly popular drinking glasses in the sixteenth century. They were produced in the densely wooded regions in Germany. For the manufacture of this "forest glass" they used beech ash. The ash lowered the melting point of sand, which is the basic raw material for the manufacture of glass. The iron particles in the sand give glass the typical blue-green colour. The Berkemeier was originally a low drinking bowl, although it had feet it developed into the characteristic funnel-shaped cup with feet. Original Berkemeiers are very rare nowadays.
This Berkemeier is authentically made and in limited edition, made for German glass museums. The signature on the bottom of the foot says BBN and the year 96.
Dimensions: height 10.5 cm, diameter bowl 9.5 cm, 200 ml content.
