A typical, male ancestor figure of the Eastern Bembe who live in the east of Democratic Republic of Congo. This figure probably comes from a clan of the Basikasingo, a related sub-tribe of the Eastern Bembe who have a very similar style. This sculpture, out of wood, displays all the features of the unusual Eastern Bembé/Basikasingo style: a proportionately large head with a long, drawn, triangular face with large eyes, long nose and a small mouth that sticks out. Framed by a spikey beard. Also very typical are the shoulders pulled far forward, the curved back, and the short bent legs. Due to the great age of the figure, there are various small cracks and minor damage.
