1st half of the 20th century – Good condition
Large Aklama Fetish of the Ada Adan ethnic group.
ADA EWE altar figurine (GHANA).
Figure d'autel ADA EWE (GHANA).
Ewe Ada Figur Hilfsgeist (Ghana).
These figurines in light-weighted wood are ritual objects of the voodoo cult which were used by the Ewé and the Dangme, who are established near the Togolese border.
They are usually materialised by little figures, animals, accessories of everyday use, or chairs, etc... in light-weighted wood.
These sculptures are responsible for interceding with diverse deities, invoked in order to offer to the followers protection, luck and prosperity throughout their personal and family lives, as well as their everyday activities (hunting, trade, ...).
Regarding these objects, which were until now very little documented, there is an important publication which is exhaustively and richly documented.
Bibliography: Aklama,Helping spirits of the Ewe and Dangme People from the Study collection of Horst Antes.
