The Guéré are an ethnic group of Ivory Coast, who live in the western region of the country, near Liberia. They are settled in the departments of Bangolo, Duékoué, Guiglo and Toulepleu, and they live in Eburnie since more than seven centuries. If currently this people mainly lives between the Cavally River (Liberian border), the Sassandra River (in the east) and in the south of the regions of the 18 mountains, by the past they had settled more in the North, in the current Dan country, but they were progressively forced to take refuge in the forest which characterises this region, mainly because of the Mandingo invasions of the 17th century.
The Wobé and the Guéré actually form one people, the We people, artificially divided by the French colonial administration.
