Three hand-braided traditional wicker baskets, with very nice geometric motifs, from Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Each basket has a loose lid. Unique crafts, of which only one of each exists. The braiding of a basket can take up to a month. Made of sisal grass or of llala palm leaf; with natural colours or dyes of roots, berries, bark and ground. These baskets are used to store grain or herbs. Very decorative items. Largest: height 19 cm; diameter 17 cm; weight 266 grams. Middle: height 18 cm; diameter 13 cm; weight 178 grams. Smallest: height 13 cm; diameter 14 cm; weight 160 grams. Collected on the spot during a tour in around 1990. Will be sent registered with track and trace. Can also be picked up in Leiden, the Netherlands.
