Alfa Romeo - AR51 Matta - 1953

Ultra rare Alfa Romeo AR51 (1900 M) complete and original for easy restoration. chassis number 1004 (built date should be early 1953), engine type 1307 # 00983 (matching numbers car), former Italian Navy vehicle (only 29 Mattas where delivered to the Navy out of only 2058 built), demobilised in 1969 and with a civilian registration (Turin province) from late 1971, two previous owners. The odometer reads only 8000 kms and this is likely to be the real mileage, the car is complete, original, 99% rustfree (only a couple of holes in the rear compartment where the floor has been corroded by moisture and dirt trapped under a rubber mat but it is a plain metal sheet and a new one can be easily welded), no accident damages (only the front bumper right corner slightly bent), twin cam 1884 cc engine (65 hp, dry sump lubrication) runs smoothly without smoke. Chassis and underbody have been protected by a thick layer of waxoil or something similar, body needs a complete respray and the seats should be re upholstered in the original black vynil (now they are brown vynil), the scruffy steering wheel comes from a '50s or '60s sporting Alfa (but the original one can be easily sourced), a not standard additional rollover bar has been added but it can be removed simply undoing eight bolts, the canvas soft top is present but has deteriorated and needs replacing. Recently I washed it and removed the wheels in order to put four new tyres, as can be seen in the pictures (I also changed spark plugs and HT leads), the car is in quite good conditions and needs only light restoration (only new rear compartment floor, a respray and a service) as it saw very little use, always dry stored and before sitting unused it run and drove perfectly); brake master and slave cylinders (along with a new brake fluid reservoir) need replacing, absolutely no steering or suspension play. Paperwork ok (logbook, title, Estratto Cronologico from PRA, bill of sale). Owner's and workshop manuals and spare parts catalogue are also available.
