SOURDILLON Berthe 1895-1976 (BENEZIT)
The career of this artist, in which her talent prospered, was a great adventure passing across time and continents. During her youth she lived in all the countries of Europe then in Russia and the Americas.
In France, she met the illustrious merchant: Zborowski, with whom she had a contract in 1926, as well as Kikoine, Kremegne, and especially SOUTINE, in whose friendship she lived while enjoying his pictorial guidance.
Continuing her exploration of the world, she never ceased to discover new countries:
the flamboyant coast of the Mediterranean, Spain then America with the fantastic stone mountains and landscapes of Mexico; still more dizzying, that inspired her in her most intense pictorial visions.
This scenery is reflected in the evolution of the SOURDILLON painting.
From a sober naturalism, in discrete tones, she first painted canvases in specific lines and a lot of portraits until 1945.
Internationally recognised artist, listed in the BENEZIT, and in directories of international quotations, she is today largely undervalued and sold at unfair prices.
