Table clock - Philipp Haas & Söhne alarm clock - Wood - 19th century
A very large and well-running German pendulum alarm clock from around 1875. Built by Philipp Haas & Söhne. The image on the inside of the door is marked Schutzmarke Ruhrenfabrik Teutonia. The movement is marked P. H&S with production number 66079.
Philipp Haas - founded in 1831 - was a large watch factory in St.Georgen. Their own clocks were produced from roughly 1865 to about 1925. Focus was mostly export to England and the U.S.. The range included all kinds of watches, from a simple Black Forest clock to extensive Biedermeier clocks. Inflation and the beginning of the worldwide economic crisis caused the company to get into trouble more and more, due to a lack of mass production of big quantities and the export which slowed to a halt due to strong import tariffs in England. The factory closed in 1925.
