Le Genie du feu - an impressive bronze sculpture of a naked male figure with a hammer in the right hand and a torch in the left. On the base various (industrial) attributes. The sculpture is signed 'Germain JB.’ It is made by the famous French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Germain (1841-1910) around 1900. It is very beautifully made and has a beautiful patina.
Jean-Baptiste Germain was born on 28 December 1841 in Fismes, France. He studied under the sculptors Auguste Dumont (1801-1884) and Charles-Alphonse Guméry (1827-1871) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He exhibited in the Parisian Salon from 1866 to 1909. Germain died on 23 September 1910.

It is cast in high quality bronze and in very good condition.
The flame on the torch is missing.
