Son of the painter Ribera Blázquez, in his father’s studio he received the late influence of painters such as Madrazo, Rosales, Esquivel..., who belonged to the romantic generation. At a very young age he entered the Academia de San Fernando, where he took lessons from Moreno Carbonero, Romero de Torres and Manuel Benedito. He studied statuary with Mateo Inurria and Capuz. He actively participated in the renewal of the ‘poster art’. In 1931 he won the poster contest organized for the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid’s masked ball, and two years later his poster was selected among others for the Feria Internacional de Barcelona. In that same year, 1933, he moved to Barcelona as artistic director of the company “Walter Thompson”.
During the Civil War, Ribera drew for the advertising departments of several companies. When the conflict was over, he started to work as a teacher and in 1945 he obtained the chair of “Standstill drawing from nude” for the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona, relieving Federico Marés as director of this school, from 1964 to 1972.
He was awarded in national and international competitions. Among the most important prizes he obtained are the golden national medal, obtained in the 1950 edition. He was also awarded with the golden medal in the 1965 Brussels Exhibition and in the 1968 Paris Exhibition.
Besides being well-known for his portraits, Ribera has painted compositions, nudes, decorative ceilings, religious painting, posters and illustrations.
