Exceptionally beautiful gouaches on English cardboard, made for the cover of the annual 49/50 from the same publishers who previously published “Tom Puss Tales” and “At the Panto”. These gouaches from the front cover (Tom Puss & Mr. Bumble) and back cover (“Cloud Cuckoolander & Badass Moustache”). "Heel fraai werk, en de gebruikte gouache techniek is uitzonderlijk voor Toonder. Dat strakke Engelse karton hadden wij in Nederland ook graag gehad trouwens" (Dick Matena) (Very fine work, and the used gouache technique is exceptional for Toonder. We would have liked to have that fine cardboard in the Netherlands, by the way) Henrieke Goorhuis used these gouaches as an example for the atmosphere and colouring in her revival of Tom Puss. These are also the very last productions by Toonder in the English period. The Annual was never published. After the liquidation of “Birn Bros” publishers, the works were stored in mint condition and only discovered a few years ago. Among others, the find was discussed in “Toondertijd 104” and in “75 jaar Literaire Lotgevallen van Tom Poes...”, and it was the great surprise of the Toonder exhibition in the Rotterdam Comic Museum. "De mooiste Wammes en Walrus ooit gezien" (“Strips” management) (the best Cuckoolander and Moustache ever seen).
