Hermann Corrodi (1844-1905) studied art in Geneva and Rome, he lived in Paris, London, Munich and Vienna and got acquainted with the most famous exponents of 19th century academic painting. Although he resided in Italy, the travels and meetings had throughout Europe gave him international fame and his paintings still arouse an interest in collectors that goes far beyond the Italian borders. His is this coastal view. It depicts a section of the coast of Campania, and is animated by tiny human figures. Dominated by towering and perched buildings and the scene closes on the right with the Vesuvius far and away. Overall, the painted surface is intact but shows erosions on the edge of the canvas. The painting appears in the catalogue of a famous Italian auction house. The buyer will receive the catalogue for free together with the artwork.
