Information about Saviotti Sergio - Faenza
If we really wanted to place Sergio Saviotti in a specific artistic movement we would consider him among the most original and eclectic exponents of 'Nouvelle Vague' , a painting movement originated in Romagna, which is nationally considered as a valid innovative force in the pictorial world nowadays. Saviotti is a new generation painter, who made his choice when facing the troubling and almost anguish orientation problems typical of our time; a choice that is indeed hard and very demanding; a choice we have been encouraging and following for some time, a choice which is an affirmation of freedom in painting compared to the academy's habits, to the representation of the object and to the choice of the object itself. Pietro Castagnoli
Saviotti thinks that from Cezanne onward, the painting became a construction, an architectural fact. The painting became a factorization with consequent reassembling of reality; an interpretation instead of a reproduction. Saviotti builds his paintings in their compositional structures and reassembles volumes and masses with a pre-cubist language, he follows diagonals lines of force that impress movement and dynamism of futurist descent ( calm doesn't not belong to our frenetic time, so painting can not be static). Once structured volumes and masses, Saviotti ‘humanises’ the painting introducing a human figure in it, rebelling to static and to the abstractionism that would make the canvas a universe without men, without appeal or force of impact; as Picasso said, “an abstract hunter does not kill anything”. The landscape needs human presence just as much as the world needs men’s gaze. These are the kind of landscapes that Saviotti paints, mostly as studies, because he fears photographic reproduction.
Important critics including Solmi, De Grada, Jean Pierre Bouvet presented his artistic quality. His exhibition journey is very rich, with numerous exhibitions in Italy and two abroad; one in Barcelona in 1971 and one in Rijeka.
