In 1881, he began to study rabies with Louis Pasteur and Emile Roux and L. Thuillier. In 1884, he developed a filter, designed from a porous porcelain candle invented by himself, to eliminate microbes in drinking water. The instrument was named Chamberland filter.
This filter is complete, in very good condition, the porcelain candles are like new.
