Charles Houben studied painting in Liège, then architecture in Brussels.
His teachers was Master Alfred Bastien for the painting and Jef Lambeaux for sculpture.
.
It is now part of the architectural heritage.
He painted Flanders and the far North of Europe, France with Oise and Seine, Italy with Venice, Tunisia and Morocco.
Since his death in 1931, in 1931, there had been only one exhibition: the retrospective of his work in Brussels from 16 to 29 January, 1932.

In 2012, there was an exhibition with Pierre Bonnard, Marc Chagall, Maurice Denis, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso in Metz in the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
Today, several of his works belong to the Royal Museums of fine arts of Belgium and the Museum of fine arts in Liège
