Impressing and enormous spyglass, 94 cm.
This piece has an excellent patina thanks to brass, with clear signs of use, but it retains its original braided leather, very rare due to its costly production and its good preservation condition.
The glass is preserved in rather good condition, I would say.
The spyglass is formed by 4 moving parts, includes front lid, which usually is missing in such antique objects and of this kind, such as the visor lid, which is composed of a small spring that closes with lid which protects the glass.
There is no inscription about the origin, although, according to the style and manufacture, and as far as I could find, the item is of European origin, most probably British or French, not very clearly of German origin. From the 19th century or very early 20th century.
I do not know about its operation, so I cannot guarantee that the item works. This spyglass comes from a French family with military tradition and whose ancestor was an officer of the French navy and they had a great collection of marine objects. Despite having been with the same family, the exact origin of this item is unknown.
This is a perfect collector’s item thanks to its dimensions and preservation condition; perfect for a library, fireplace, dining room or lounge, of for lovers of nautical world or the navy.
