G.C., born from a painters ' family, from 1863 studied in Neaples at Art Accademy under De Vito and in Rome at S. Luca Accademy under C. Fracassini ; returned in Naples in 1868, followed the realistic style (D. Morelli and F. Palizzi) painting above all the low-class everyday life .
From 1880 to 1900 created a group of painters called "Maiori School" or "The Costaioli" who used to paint (just as Capone) Amalfi landscapes and Maiori streets . He always painted by oil and only in his maturity by watercolours .
