Lovely brass Sestrel compass gimbaled, in a copper night house at a beautiful mahogany foot.
Compass is made by Henry Browne and Son in 1942 and has been used in the second world war. On top of the compass in the copper is a number hammered: BB6395
On the side of the night house is a name tag, with the name Sestrel and serial number B3/173. This number is also on the compass.
Compass is in good used condition. Please see the photos.

The company Henry Browne and Son was founded in the nineteenth century in Barking and London. The respected English instrument makers for more than 140 years made high quality compasses, ship clocks, sextants and such.
Sestrel was their famous brand name. In 1993 the company was sold to John Lilley & Gillie Ltd and SIRS Navigation, both companies in the United Kingdom.
