The German-born painter Erasmus Bernhard van Dulmen Krumpelman, (also Erasmus Bernhard von Dülmen Krumpelman(n)) was a son of mathematics teacher Erasmus Bernardus van Dulmen Krumpelman and Elisabeth Adam. His parents had met in Kreuznach. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Amsterdam.

In 1918 he became a member of Arti et Amicitiae and regularly exhibited at members' exhibitions. He came into contact with artists August Allebé, George Breitner and Willem Witsen, who helped him to develop his style. He mainly painted in an impressionistic style.

He came into contact with painters from Groninger art circle De Ploeg, after which his style of painting became looser and more colourful. He painted and drew landscapes, cityscapes, circus scenes and portraits (including the portrait of Professor Adrianus van Veldhuizen for Groningen University). He designed in 1920 for Brusse in Rotterdam the cover for the book 25 years among men.

In 1946 he was co-founder of the Drentse Schilders, an artists' association that existed until 1953. He was then co-founder of the Drents Schildersgenootschap (1954) together with his son Erasmus Herman and Evert Musch, among others.

E.B. van Dulmen Krumpelman won the Cultural Prize of Drenthe in 1958. In 1984 the Drents Museum organized an overview exhibition of his work.

The frame has some some light signs of wear.

    Response by seller
Please note: some elements on this page have been translated automatically.
