Souvenir of the ostension of the Turin Shroud from May 1898.
Colour engraving on linen cloth, size 73 x 41 cm. It depicts the Shroud inside a frame, for an overall size of 51 x 83 cm. Symbols of the Passion of Christ on the corners on red background. In the centre of the lower border there is the inscription “Tuam Sindonem / Veneramus Domine”, at the top the title: IMAGO SACRATISS. SINDONIS D.N.I. CHRISTI / QUAM TAURINENSES IN SACRARIO REGIS RELIGESE VENERANTUR AB ARCHETYPO DERIVATA; under it, between the above-mentioned inscription and the print: LONGIT. S. SINDONIS M. 4.10, LAT. M. 1.40, LONG. FIGURAE CHRISTI M. 1.78, SIGNA SUBSIGNA SUNT ABUSTIONES QUAS PASSA EST IN INCENDIO CAMBERIACI A. 1532. Under the border of the print, on the sides of the Savoy coat of arms: “CON APPROVAZIONE ECCLESIASTICA - RICORDO DELLA SOLENNE OSTENZIONE / FATTA IN TORINO NEL MAGGIO 1898”.
In excellent condition, with a few scattered foxing stains.
