1967 Château Laroze, Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion (nég. Barriére)
Chateau Laroze is a Saint-Emilion cru produced on 27 hectares. Thanks to the work of Guy Meslin, a brilliant winemaker and a descendant of the family, the wines produced are lush and well-balanced. An excellent wine at affordable prices.
A very consistent wine which is refined and balanced, Château Laroze's wine may be drunk when it is still young. In good vintages it is worth keeping for many years so that it can open up.
1975 Château Trotte Vieille, 1er Grand Cru Classé B Saint-Émilion.
Information on Château Trotte Vieille :
Château Trotte Vieille, one of Saint Emilion's most famous Premier Grand Crus, is located on the appellation's eastern side. The vineyard lies on clay-limestone soil. More rigorous selection, later harvests and ageing in oak barrels for 18 months (with 90% renewed each year) have enabled Trotte Vieille's wines to join the ranks of the appellation's finest properties. The wines are deep, imposing and concentrated, with notes of liquorice and raspberries. These are wines of tremendous class.
1979 Chateau Croque Michotte, Grand Cru Classé Saint-Emilion.
Top location in the wine region of Saint-Émilion. Chateau Croque Michotte has been classified a Grand Cru Classé from 1955 till 1995. Unfortunately it lost the Grand Cru Classé status in 1996. Following the 2012 Classification of St. Emilion wines, the director of Croque Michotte, (Pierre Carle) which was denied Grand Cru Classe status again, brought forth legal action claiming the new, St. Emilion Classification was unfair, irrelevant and inconsistent. The owner of the chateau filed a legal appeal to an official Bordeaux administrative tribunal in early 2013. They demanded that the classification of St. Emilion to be set aside.
Its 14 hectares of vines consist of a coherent piece (which is rather rare in Saint Emilion) on the border with Pomerol near Château Cheval Blanc and Château La Dominique and Château Gazin. This is the best terroir in St.Emilion and the grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Franc can produce excellent results here. In 1906 it was acquired by Samuel Geoffrion, whose grandchildren still operate the winery today. Like the neighbouring Corbin Michotte, the vineyard works strictly biological.
Colour: Intense ruby red.
Nose: A palette of very ripe fruit with fused wood. A natural acidity through the application of organic agriculture.
Taste: A good solid structure with finesse obtained by the subsoil of gravel in the terroir.
